Can Dogs Eat Bananas?

6 Nov 2026 · Dogs · 5 min read

Medical draft · pending veterinary review

Plain, peeled banana is safe for most dogs as an occasional treat. It is high in sugar, so keep portions small.

How much?

Treats, including fruit, should make up no more than about 10% of daily calories. A few small slices is plenty for a medium dog.

Avoid

  • Banana peel (hard to digest)
  • Banana chips or bread with added sugar or xylitol
Never feed grapes, raisins or xylitol-containing products — these are toxic to dogs.
